Confession of an addict

I am an addict. No, not that kind of addict. I have addiction with stuff. Two, in fact:

Addiction no. 1:

Socks - Yes, socks ! I'm addicted to socks. I wear socks with or without shoes. Just not on sandals. I don’t find that very appealing and doesn’t translate to any good sense of fashion. Just my opinion.

And, before you jump any further, I don’t have podophobia or the fear of feet. I like my feet actually. I think they are slender and sexy but I’m not into the idea or the feeling of walking barefoot around the house. While some people dislike the feeling of having socks on or the way socks feels against their feet, I am their opposite.

What I mean by my addiction with socks is that I walk around the house with socks on and I can not sleep without my socks on. In fact, the only time I’d put off my socks is in the bath, in the shower or when I’m at work on my heels. Wait, are nylons or stockings considered socks?

I pack on socks when travelling. Okay, I’m just crazy about socks. I have a huge drawer filled with socks. I kid you not! Different hues for different use. Myriad of patterns and styles. There’s for winter, spring, summer and fall. Foot socks, ankle socks, sports socks, crew socks, mid-calf, over the calf. You name them all. I just can never have enough socks.

What’s with the socks, you ask. I don’t know but they make me feel comfy and secure day in day out. Yeah, more like my security blanket. Be it cotton or wool or blended kind of rayon, silk and the like. They said cotton sucks for sock especially if you have hot or sweaty feet. I happen to be a cotton girl but fortunately for me, I’m never sweaty. Not in Canada! But, honestly I don’t care. I have to have my socks on, no matter what especially when I’m sleeping or I can’t sleep at all. Okay, not while in the beach of course! There, I can bear the feel of sand and water in my feet but at the end of the day, I want my socks on.

My addiction is quite extensive ‘though not necessarily expensive for what can horribly go wrong with those purchased from the Dollar store that comes with crazy patterns and bold colours, eh? No need to match at all and you can call me silly, however, my socks depends on the mood. Sometimes, bright and loud like asking for trouble. At times, calm and cool or simply gray waiting for the rain.

I’m addicted to socks and novelty socks are quite right. They are the shields of my over all comfort and security, be it bed time or not.

Albert Einstein:

“When I was young I found out that the big toe always ends up making a hole in a sock. So I stopped wearing socks.”

Oh Albert, I wish you knew that you only have to keep your toenails short and smooth by filing them. That way, your socks will last longer and you never have to stop wearing socks. –So much thought for a genius, eh?

Addiction no. 2:

Pajamas (PJs) - I’m also a pajama (PJ) addict and yes, as I have pairs and pairs of socks, I also have tons of pajamas in my closet. And, just like my socks collection, my PJ collection also comes eccentric and for all season. I wear jammies around the house. All year round. I lounge around and even cook on my PJ (apron on, of course). So, if you’d pop by the house without a notice and I’m home, expect me to welcome you on my PJ and be cozy.

Did you know?

The word pajama or pyjama (British) originally referred to loose trousers tied around the waist. It originally derived from the Persian language, pāyjāmeh, which means leg-garment and then incorporated into the English language via Hindustani. – Source: https://en.wikipedia.org

Again, please don’t ask me, what’s with the PJs?

Because quite frankly, I don’t know but like socks, my jammie addiction gives me comfort day in and day out and at the end of the day – my ultimate luxury is to happily snuggle up, relax and take it easy under the blanket. Most importantly, it gives me the sense of self. Myself.

Perhaps now, you know what to give me on my birthday or on Christmas. It doesn’t have to be Victoria’s Secret or J.Crew; Wallmart actually have some pretty designs too made by George (happened to be my nickname in High school). However, if you want me to feel Frenchie and sensual, La Vie en Rose will be perfect. Oh, and small please or large from the girl’s section. Wait, what? Party? Oh yeah, PJ party! Count me in!

Kidding aside, just the way I am and really, I don’t care about other worldly things but with my Pajamas and my socks on, I am myself. Call it obsession without pretentions, no defenses. With my socks and PJs on, I am comfy and at peace. And, in the coziness of my home when I settle in behind the noisy and restless world, my socks tell me things will be okay and my PJ’s grant me the tranquility that my mind so beseech.

Life is filled with simple pleasures~

Jammies and socks are little things indeed but they have satisfying effect on me and I always take great pleasure in them.

Let me satisfy your curiosity...

Okay, have we gone that up close and personal yet? So, here’s another thing about me… I don’t sleep and I can’t sleep in the dark. No, I’m not afraid of the dark or that the boogey man will come get me. But darkness makes me feel like drowning and I don’t like that feeling. I don’t like that feeling that trickles through my head in the dark and those random gloomy thoughts that fills my lung and the crevices of my heart.

So, my side table lamp is always on until I see the sun peeks on me or until I hear the universe humming again. Yes, please leave the light on. Again, s’il vous plait, don’t ask me why. Just the way, I am! Sleeping and living my life, out of my head in the depth of my heart and out of the dark. On the side note, I like dark chocolates but hey, I’m not addicted to it.

And, why do I have to write all about this? Because this is me, breathing and taking time to just be. Put it simply, I write because I wish to write.

It's also my way of appreciating the little things in life- simple pleasures.

C'est la vie!
